We begin running near the hotel, on the track surrounding the Kibbutz to the northwest. After 1 kilometer we turn right and leave the kibbutz to descend into a grove overlooking views of Mount Hermon and northern Golan.

After half a kilometer of descent, we turn right on a “single” trail for another 500 meters of flat terrain. At the end, we turn right, run a moderate incline on the southern embankment of the Merom Golan reservoir full of winter rainwater, turn right back towards the Kibbutz and the finish line.

We leave the edge of Kibbutz Ortal and run through fields until we cross Highway 91. This part may be partly muddy. After crossing the road, we climb the first peak - the Shifon - about 1km climb (100 meters ascent) and at the top enjoy the breathtaking view of the entire course. 15 km - Course description

We leave the edge of Kibbutz Ortal and run through fields until we cross Highway 91. This part may be partly muddy. After crossing the road, we climb the first peak – the Shifon – about 1km climb (100 meters ascent) and at the top enjoy the breathtaking view of the entire course. We descend the way we ran up, then continue east with a moderate incline along the Golan Trail.

The next 5 kilometers are “rolling hills” – moderate ups and downs, but don’t let this route mislead you – the path is narrow and the terrain is demanding.

We leave the Golan Trail and begin a steep climb up the 2nd volcano – the Avital. A little over 1km with a cumulative increase of 140m (14% average gradient), followed by 2km fast run along the road. Another 1km of climbing along a wide path takes us most of the way up the Bental – the 3rd and final mountain – where we will get a great view of Mount Hermon and beyond, and then descend to the finish line at Merom Golan.

Course description:

The first 15k are easy and fast. This part is composed mostly of gravel trails, with long rolling hills and long link segments.

The second 15k are quite different – running is almost entirely on single trails, and although there are fewer ascents, the terrain is more demanding.

First 15k:

We leave the edge of Kibbutz Ortal and run through fields until we cross Highway 91. This part may be partly muddy. After crossing the road, we climb the first peak – the Shifon – about 1km climb (100 meters ascent) and at the top enjoy the breathtaking view of the entire course and all the other volcanoes we will soon climb.

We descend the Shifon the way we ran up, turn right before Highway 91 and run along a gravel track for about 3.5 km until we turn right and start the long climb up the Yosifoon (about 2 km / 160 meters cumulative).

The descent from the Yosifoon (about 1 km / 100m) is along a wide but uneven path. We run about 2.5 km with a moderate incline and finish the first 15km.

That was just the warmup!

Second 15k:

We cross Highway 98 and enter the Bashanit nature reserve. The trail takes us up and down some hills, till we take a long hike along the Golan Trail up to the wind turbines and the amazing view towards Quneitra (Syria). We descend (about 2 km / 100m) along the Golan Trail , and the next 5 kilometers are “rolling hills” – moderate ups and downs, but don’t let this route mislead you – the path is narrow and the terrain is demanding.

We leave the Golan Trail and begin a steep climb up the 4th volcano – the Avital. A little over 1km with a cumulative increase of 140m (14% average gradient), followed by 2km fast run along the road. Another 1km of climbing along a wide path takes us most of the way up the Bental – the 5th and final mountain – where we will get a great view of Mount Hermon and beyond, and then descend to the finish line at Merom Golan.
